Hi! I have recently stripped the wallpaper in our living room and the wall is now exposed with the dry wall behind as shown in the images. What do we need to do now to prep the wall in order to paint it? Thank you in advance.
Hello @nsant
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your dry wall.
I recommend having a look at this discussion - How to repair ripped plasterboard? by @Bee01. The discussion has very specific steps on how to prepare and repair the dry wall. Just to add to the recommendations made, I also suggest using a Craftright 18mm Snap Off Knife to remove any stubborn peeling sections. My best advice is not to cut too deep; your goal is to just remove the lifting sections of paper without creating a deep channel in the dry wall.
The materials you'll need will be the Zinsser 369g B-I-N Primer Sealer Stain Blocker Aerosol, the Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Multi-Purpose Joint Compound and the Kango 150mm Stainless Joint Knife. Please remember that it is better to apply a thin coat and build up to the level that you need. As the damage is quite large a minimum of two coats will be needed. Please allow enough time for the first coat to dry off before you apply the next one.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
