Hi, We have patio doors that have these old loose pin hinge in place (2 per door). We want to replace them before we paint the doors and frame. The pin is also outside which seems a security risk. They don't appear to be the original hinge looking at the frame so we think the doors may have been replaced at some point. What sort of hinge should we use?
Hello @Ladyofthehouse
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your door hinges.
Before going to the store, I suggest measuring the hinges you currently have. This will give you an idea of what size you are after. It appears that the original hinges were taller, looking at the rebate in your door frame. This is an option that you can explore as well should you wish to get a taller hinge. I propose looking at the https://www.bunnings.com.au/lane-85-x-60-x-2mm-stainless-steel-architectural-fixed-pin-butt-hinge_p4160234 . It has a fixed pin installed for security and its stainless-steel construction provides outstanding corrosion resistance which is perfect for outdoor use. Please double check the size to make sure it is suitable for your doors. Should you decide on another model, my best advice is to make sure that it has a fixed pin in place.
I also recommend checking the hinge holes and the length of the screws used for the hinges. I suggest getting similar screws either longer or of a larger gauge so that it fits tightly onto the timber frame.
