How to replace a bathroom tap cartridge?

I need to replace the cartridge in my bathroom tap. Similar to the one shown in the photo. I am wondering if I need a specific cartridge for the model of the tap in my bathroom or if it is more of a universal concept for tap cartridges. Would it be more appropriate to go to a place that sells plumbing materials?

That is a bit unfortunate, it is an easy job but the water needs to go off, and I understand that it is a licenced job for a reason. Thanks for letting me know.

Replacing a mixer tap cartridge is considered regulated plumbing work in most areas, so you’ll need to have a licensed plumber replace it for you.

Regarding your question, mixer cartridges aren’t universal. There are several different types and sizes, and the replacement needs to match the cartridge currently fitted to your tap. A plumber will be able to identify the appropriate replacement and swap it over for you.
