I used Shelly's mold remover on ceramic tiles in the bathroom, it has left white stains on the tiles that I cannot remover, I have rinsed the area and wiped with a damp cloth stains still appear.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kmenezes. It’s fabulous to have you join us and many thanks for your question on Selleys Mould Killer
I presume it was Selleys Rapid Mould Killer that you used. The product instructions note that staining can occur on some matt-finish tiles or in hard-water areas. If this occurs, the recommendation is to rinse the area thoroughly and apply hydrogen peroxide to the affected area.
Can you let us know how long you left the mould remover on the tiles before rinsing it off? The instructions specify that it should be rinsed off after no more than 30 seconds, so leaving it on longer could potentially have affected the surface
Could you also confirm whether your ceramic tiles are glazed or unglazed? This will help us determine whether the white marks are likely to be residue that can be removed or whether the tile's surface may have been affected.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, yes unfortunately I left it on for more than 5-10 minutes, I believe the tiles are ceramic non glazed tiles.
The next step, apart from trying some hydrogen peroxide in a small test section @kmenezes, would be to use warm water, a small amount of dishwashing detergent and a stiff-bristled brush. Agitate the stain to see if you can remove any of it. If you can't, that indicates that it's likely not on the surface but within it, and you might need to move on to the hydrogen peroxide method. If you can upload some images of the stain, that would be helpful for our members when providing advice. Let me know if you need a hand posting images.
