How to add glow band in bedroom using LED strip?

Hello,

I am looking to DIY a glow band in my bedroom. Please help me arrange the LED strip which must operate at 24V with warm lights. I have other components ready such as cladding, adhesive etc. Also, help me find an aluminium channel for the LED strip. The width is 3.7m

Our available LED strip lighting can be found on the Bunnings website, including warm-white options.

Could you please clarify what assistance you need with arranging the lighting? Are you looking for a specific 24V LED strip and aluminium channel to cover the full 3.7m width, or advice on how you intend to position and install the strip within your cladding?

Taking a look at what's on the Bunnings Webpage, it appears that the https://www.bunnings.com.au/wiz-5m-gradient-light-strip-led-colour-22-5w-smart-light_p0792721 would be the closest to your requirements.

If you can also share a photo of the area and how you're hoping the finished glow band will look, that would help our members provide more specific suggestions.

Are you perhaps referring to a cove lighting style in order to create a glow band on the wall? It can be done by using timber pine pieces and creating an "L" channel where the LED will sit in. The light will then illuminate the wall and create the glow band you are referring to. This type of arrangement can also be attached to the ceiling, but it all depends on the look and style you are after.

I've placed some sample images below using AI, one where the timber is unpainted and one where it is painted the same colour as the wall. Please have a look and tell us if this is the lighting style you are referring to.

The images you have attached do not have LED hotspots (like a bead resembling LEDs in the strip). Did you have to place it a case to avoid the hotspots or used ribbon led strips instead?

Yes, using the timber case reduces the LED hot spotting but will not totally remove it. I'm sorry the store only has LED strips and but no ribbon type LEDs.

Could you please explain how to place the LED strip in the timber channel? A view or a cross-sectional view would be so helpful.

The depth of the channel will have a big impact on how visible the individual LEDs are @sujoy_kb. The deeper the channel, the more distance there is for the light from each LED to spread out and overlap with the LEDs beside it. By the time the light reaches the opening, those individual points of light blend together to create a much more even glow.

Another option is to change the orientation of the LED strip. Instead of mounting the strip so the LEDs point directly out of the channel, you can mount it on the side so the LEDs shine towards the opposite side of the channel or the wall. The light then reflects, or bounces, off that surface before leaving the channel. This indirect lighting helps disguise the individual LEDs and reduces hot spotting even further.

So, generally, a deeper recess combined with indirect, reflected light will give you the smoothest glow. A shallow channel with the LEDs pointing directly out is much more likely to show the individual points of light.
