How to improve look of new timber fence?

Question

Im hoping for some advice please. My neighbour has put up a timber fence, I believe treated pine. I want to make it blend in as we are semi rural and this wouldn't have been our choice.

My understanding is that treated timber looks after itself re maintenance? so I'm thinking its just the cosmetic that I need to address?

I know external paint is an option. And I will plant it out with shrubs and climbers/creepers. But can i alternatively  stain it? Don't think I need to varnish it?

I just want to make it blend in as much as possible really.  See pics.

Just to add to the excellent suggestions made, I propose thinking about turning it into a feature by adding a raised garden bed along its side and adding a few wall hanging planters to break up the flat surface of the fence. I've placed a sample rendered image using AI to give you an idea of how it can be modified. It's an option worth exploring if your time and budget allows it.

The fence is looking very fresh and bright at the moment, which is making it stand out against the surrounding greenery. Being treated pine, it will naturally dull and weather as it ages, so you might find it becomes much less noticeable over time.

You can certainly stain the fence if you'd prefer to tone it down sooner. An exterior timber stain in a darker, more natural brown or grey tone could help it blend into the semi-rural surroundings nicely. Given the size of the fence, I'd recommend applying the stain with a paint sprayer, as brushing the entire area would be quite a substantial job. Just make sure any freshly treated timber has had sufficient time to weather before coating and follow the stain manufacturer's preparation instructions. Something like the

There's no need to varnish the fence. The treated pine already has protection against decay and termites, while an exterior stain can provide additional protection from weathering as well as changing its appearance.

Combined with the shrubs and climbers you're planning, I think you'll find the fence becomes far less prominent once everything starts settling in.
