How to replace faulty privacy door handle?

This door handle will not lock properly. I think there is something faulty with the mechanism inside. It unlocks but it will not lock - it usually takes about ten goes before it will finally lock. I can either replace it or attempt to fix what may be wrong with it?

If it needs replacing, which handle and lock system would you recommend?

I suggest replacing the door knob with a new set. When a mechanical fault develops inside this type of door lock, they often can't be repaired and spare parts for them are not available.

If it is a privacy set, I suggest looking at the Ikonic Bright Chrome Ruby Privacy Knob Set. But if it is a front entry set, I suggest replacing it with something more robust such as the Gainsborough Stainless Steel Manning Entrance Knobset or the Gainsborough Stainless Steel Manning Combination Entrance Knob Set for extra security as it comes with a deadbolt.
