I'd like to switch out my two old taps for a single mixer. Is this possible to DIY with my plumbing setup (see pics), or does this require getting a plumber in?
If possible to DIY, any tips on appropriate mixer types to buy to fit my arrangement would be greatly appreciated. I understand I would need to get a hole cover for one of the tap openings. Thanks.
Hi @kayara,
Whether you can replace a tap yourself depends on the plumbing regulations in your state or territory. In some jurisdictions, certain tap replacements can be carried out as D.I.Y. work, but as we're unable to confirm where you're located, I'd recommend checking with your local building or plumbing authority to confirm what work you're permitted to undertake.
In your case, however, it appears that the existing taps are hard-piped with copper pipework. Installing the new taps would therefore require the existing pipework to be modified, which is plumbing work that would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.
So, on this occasion, I'd recommend contacting a plumber for assistance with the replacement.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Jacob, thanks for the quick response - I was worried that might be the case when I saw the copper piping! In this case as I'm trying to make basic improvements on minimal budget - would it be more straightforward to replace the tapware itself but keeping the two taps, just to install a higher-set tap (so I can fit waterbottles underneath) and new clean tap handles? Thanks.
It is certainly possible to replace the spout with something like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/shaw-mason-chrome-swivel-basin-spout_p0595300 or this https://www.bunnings.com.au/shaw-mason-chrome-swivel-hob-spout_p0595303 , however, whether you can do it yourself really depends on where you live. This is why I'd recommend contacting your local building or plumbing authority for guidance on what is possible under your state or territory's legislation.
With this being said, as we span many jurisdictions, our advice would generally be that you need a plumber's assistance with this.
