Hi,
I have bought a 4 m × 4 m wall-mounted aluminium louvre pergola and am now working out the safest way to attach the house side. I understand that I should not simply fix the pergola directly to the fascia, because the fascia itself may not be designed to carry the structural load of the pergola. The pergola comes with two wall-mount brackets that are positioned at specific locations along the rear beam. My house has a soffit/fascia arrangement rather than a high flat wall, so I am trying to work out the simplest safe DIY solution.
As the height from my yard floor to the soffit is 2.3, I have been looking at fascia/rafter mounting brackets such as this type:
My understanding is that brackets like these still need to be attached back into structural framing such as rafters, trusses or the top plate, rather than only into the fascia or soffit lining. So, my main questions are:
- What would be the safest and simplest way to support the pergola from the house structure?
- Would a good approach be to install several rafter/fascia brackets at the locations of the actual house framing, then support a continuous ledger / structural member across them?
- How can I correctly identify which members behind the fascia/soffit are actually structural and suitable for fixing into?
- Are there any suitable off-the-shelf brackets or fixings available from Bunnings NZ for this type of installation?
I have attached photos of my house/eaves and the pergola, plus the relevant mounting detail from the installation manual. I am looking for the easiest DIY-friendly solution that is still structurally safe and secure.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
