How to affix ceramic tiles to external rendered wall?

Hi there,

Complete DIY novice here.

I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for on existing posts. Would like some advice on best way to affix decorative ceramic tiles to external rendered wall.

Picture of tiles and wall attached.

Also should I use some sort of grout to go around the outside and in the spaces between the tiles.

Also what would be best way to hold tile in place while they dry.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your tiles.

I suggest drawing a pencil guide where the tiles are going to be positioned. Once you have determined the ideal spot, I suggest sanding off the paint in that particular section. Leave a 30mm border so that you won't have to sand all the way to edge of the pencil guide. Your goal is to remove the paint so that the concrete surface is properly revealed. Use a broom or brush to remove the sanding dust and wipe the surface with a damp cloth so that the surface is free of sanding dust.

I recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-415g-liquid-nails-landscape-stone-concrete-adhesive_p1231856 to stick the tiles to the wall and support the tile using several strips of https://www.bunnings.com.au/scotchblue-24mm-x-54-8m-original-multi-surface-painter-s-masking-tape_p1669657 . Make sure to apply the tape generously at the top and bottom of the tile while the adhesive cures. Once the adhesive cures you can remove the tape safely. Make sure the area is totally dry and then use https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-430g-white-no-more-gaps-exterior-gap-filler_p1230161 to fill in the gaps at the top, sides and bottom along with the gaps in between the tiles.
