How to fill holes in front door?

Hi there,

We're new to DIY.

We were in the middle of installing a new smart lock on our front door when we realised after installation, it would leave holes at the top of smart lock.

The holes are approximately 15mm in diameter and the goes through the door which is about 39mm thick.

How would we go about filling these holes if it's possible? The door appears to be a solid core door if it makes a difference.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your door.

I propose filling the holes with a https://www.bunnings.com.au/porta-dowel-round-16mm-clear-pine-1-2m_p8493962 . The timber dowel can be trimmed down using either a sharp timber chisel or a heavy-duty craft knife so that they fit into the holes. Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles when trimming the dowel down.

Once you have the size that you need, I suggest using https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-320g-liquid-nails-construction-adhesive_p1233751 to glue to dowel in place. I then recommend using https://www.bunnings.com.au/parfix-500g-ready-to-use-multipurpose-filler-500g_p1210321 to fill in the imperfections and gaps in front of the hole. You can then sand the surface level before you prime and paint the surface. My best advice is to give the adhesive enough time to fully cure before you fill in the gaps in front of the door.
