Enclosed vegetable garden with raised beds

The project:

Enclosed 5 x 3 metre veggie garden with raised beds and central walkway. Shade cloth roof to provide protection to plants from frost and severe weather. Original intent of the enclosure was to keep free-ranging chickens from eating all our veggies (a reverse chicken run!)

- Materials:

5 x 3 metre livestock enclosure (chicken run)

7 x 5 metre shade sail

Tent poles

10 x raised garden beds

- Tools:

Spades and shovels

Hand tools

Knife

- Step 1:

Clear site and level up using corrugated steel for retaining wall

- Step 2:

Build enclosure, using tent poles to make the sides higher

- Step 3:

Install mesh and fix using cable ties

- Step 4:

Install shade sail, cut to size and fix using cable ties

- Step 5:

Build raised beds and fill with good quality topsoil

- Step 6:

Lay weed matting and spread crushed rock on walkway
