The project:
This used to be a bare block and one day I had the brainwave to turn it into a walkthrough shade house The picture below was what I started with before the shade house was built A visit to Munno Para Bunnings saw me buying all the tools I needed to start the project.
The completed shade house took 6 months to build and another 3 months to landscape. All plants were in small pots and have grown well over the years since they were planted. They were purchased from Bunnings at Munno Para.
- Materials:
Treated Pine posts and rails held together with nails and galvanized bolts Shade cloth. Lattice work and concrete. Gang nails Laser level.
- Tools:
Hammers, Saws. Clamps to hold rails. Post hole borer. Drills for bolt holes. Spanners. Step ladder. Ropes and pulleys.
- Step 1:
Cleared and leveled the land.Dug the holes for the posts.Set all posts in concrete after leveling and bracing.
- Step 2:
Bolted Ridge and Rails into place once concrete had set. Fixed Shade cloth into place using gang nails. Erected the lattice fencing at the end.
- Step 3:
Once the structure was completed, I set about creating the shape of the garden including a winding pathway which is undulating and covered with river pebbles Then I set about making a sitting area so we could enjoy the finished project
- Step 4:
This is the pathway a couple of years after starting. The plants have grown well due to conditioning the soil before planting.
