Hi Everyone,
I have some loose eaves on my front porch. I'm not sure how to fix it. Do I screw it to the batten or nail it or some other method? Also what materials should I use? Appreciate your advice.
Hello @wellz
Thank you for sharing your question about your loose eaves. When eaves come loose and its fixing fails there is often an underlying issue such as excess moisture exposure or rainwater damage. But before you begin to take it apart, I suggest having your eaves tested for asbestos. If the results are positive, you'll need the services of an asbestos removal specialist. If the test is negative, you can continue with your repair work.
On the condition that the test is negative. I propose removing one of the eaves and investigating if your roof has an undiagnosed leak. You'll see that parts of the rafter will be damp or coloured differently from the rest. There will be a water trail on the interior of the eaves and roof framing. I suggest addressing this first before you put the eave back in place. If the leak is not fixed the eave will sag and fail again if it gets wet.
I suggest looking at the https://www.bunnings.com.au/buildex-9g-x-32mm-class-3-fibre-cement-screws-100-pack_p0920112 or similar to anchor the eaves into place. I also suggest looking at this discussion - How to replace eaves sheet? by @mody_moozy.
