How to attach a hanging garden to Colorbond fence?

Hi everyone!

I’m wanting to set up a hanging herb garden on a section of fence, but am struggling to figure out the best way to do it!

I like the idea of attaching a nice looking screen and hanging to planters from that (as in this tutorial: https://www.bunnings.com.au/diy-advice/garden/planting-and-growing/how-to-make-a-vertical-wall-garden )

The issue is, there are no posts on my side of the fence, and the top is slanted so hanging of the top would be hard, I’ve attached pics of my side and the back side of the fence.

Any suggestions on how to attach something that will be strong enough to hold planters?

I’m open as well to just mounting something in the ground right in front of the fence, but again, not sure how to make sure it would be strong enough!

Thank you for sharing your question about installing a hanging garden on your Colorbond fence. The Colorbond fence has been built to carry the RHS rails and the Colorbond panel sheets. It's also rated for certain wind loads so that it does not fall down in case there is a moderate storm. Adding weight to the Colorbond fence changes that equation. It makes it heavier and this unexpected load can have unpredictable effects on the fence from the fence leaning to the panels warping. I therefore suggest having a free-standing vertical garden instead just to be on the safe side.

I suggest having a look at these guides - How to build a raised garden bed using pallets and How to build a vertical garden. These two builds join together to create a vertical garden set up. I also suggest looking at the Top 10 most popular vertical garden projects. My best advice is to build it as a free standing build rather than hanging it on the Colorbond fence.
