Hi, I would like to know how to go about fixing skirting boards. After a floor sand and polish work, the entire skirting board has reddish colour at the bottom. Was this an avoidable issue using some tape or some other protection. Is the skirting board damaged from the sanding work or is it stained from the floor polish or both.
Hello @rraus
Thank you for sharing your question about your skirting board. Looking at the pictures you've shared, it appears that the masking tape was not applied firmly which might have allowed the floor stain to bleed or pass through. Masking tape when properly applied will usually provide a good positive seal preventing bleed or pass through.
I suggest having a look at this guide - How to use painter's tape
In this instance the masking application will need to be applied to the floor. Once you have placed the masking tape on the floor make sure that its sides are firmly attached by running the edge of your thumb on the edge of the masking tape. Slightly sand the edge of your skirting board to remove the floor stain and then remove the sanding dust before repainting the skirting board. My best advice is that if you need wider protection, I recommend using the https://www.bunnings.com.au/scotchblue-48mm-x-54-8m-original-multi-surface-painter-s-masking-tape_p1214167 .
Please remember to be patient and take your time when applying and lining up the masking tape.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
