The project:
Hi all, this is my first proper woodworking project so please go easy on me :) I've got a bunch of tools from Bunnings and to be honest no idea what I'm doing. All I knew is I wanted a solid workbench for future projects, and a simple way to know what to buy and what to cut. So I asked AI (Claude Opus 5.5) to plan it for me and give me the instructions. I had no idea whether it would actually all fit together, but to my shock and surprise, it did!
- Materials:
H3 treated pine, marine ply for the top, ply for the shelf and ends, Zenith bolts, Buildex screws and Selleys Aquadhere, all from Bunnings Busselton, plus levelling castors ordered online.
- Tools:
Circular saw, drill and impact driver, clamps and a square.
- Step 1:
I asked AI to plan it, and it drew me these lovely step by step diagrams, along with a shopping list for Bunnings Busselton. I printed them out and got going. The full plans are free on GitHub if you want to build one too:
- Step 2:
Legs glued and screwed. Each one is two layers of pine.
- Step 3:
Frames bolted together. I made a mistake with my cutting along the way, but I just sent it a follow up and it told me exactly which bits to cut to fix it. It saved me a lot of time and stress, and it turned out to be a really fun way to build something.
- Step 4:
Joined up with the cross rails.
- Step 5:
Top and shelf on.
- Step 6:
In the garage. It still needs castors. Unfortunately Bunnings didn't have any ratcheting levelling castors that would suit, so I ordered some online and they're on their way to me now.
I'd love to show you more, so if you're interested I did a short video of the build here:

Anyways, thanks for looking and I hope you like it!
