How to replace kitchen sink silicone?

Question

silicone that attach the steel sink t the benchtop is goving up and sink is lifting up from one side a little bit. Other sides are totally fine. One corner is coming up silicone is getting black.

Shall i remove and redo silicone myself or needs to be redone for the whole sink and how to do it

Hi @musama,

If you've cleaned out the old silicone from that section, then I think your approach should be fine. You'd only really need a plumber if the pipework is disconnected.

You could pump a generous amount of clear silicone into the seam between the sink and benchtop, then push the sink firmly back down into position. Place some weight on the sink to hold it down while the silicone cures, then wipe away any excess silicone that squeezes out of the joint before it skins over.

If you're able to fit suitable sink clips underneath, they would also help keep the sink firmly against the benchtop.

Once everything is positioned correctly, leave the silicone undisturbed for the manufacturer's recommended curing time before using the sink.

just cleaned the silicone myself and planning to do diy without lifting the whole sink.

I just checked underneath and realised there are no clips to hold sink down. Pics attached

i am planning to do silicone than push down sink and attach clips.

Please advise any other recommendations

Thank you for sharing your question about the silicone surround of your sink. Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance. Any changes that involve moving or reconfiguring pipework would be considered regulated plumbing work and would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.

I recommend engaging the services of a licensed plumber as they will need to remove the drain/plug of the sink along with the tap.  The sink will then need to be removed, and the old silicone cleaned off on both the benchtop and sink. Once both sides are clean a new bead of silicone is applied such as the

. The sink is then put back into place, and the plumber will reconnect everything back onto the sink.
