Whats the easiest way to fix this?

I have some FC pillars on the posts of my car port which have accumulated chips and dings over the years.

What would the easiest way to fix this? Can I putty over it and repaint?

I am about to have a wall put in by Premier Walls and Fencing soon (Armgo type panels with fc columns) and I intend on painting the new fence with some dulux sedona, so I will have a surpluss of render paint.

Hello @Mooky

Grab a small tub of builders bog and mix a small amount. Patch with spatula and wait to dry. Use sanding block to flatten. Bring color sample to Bunnings to paint match. First coat wait to dry, second coat to finish.

Thanks for the tip. How would I get a somewhat matching texture to the rest of the pillar after filling and sanding the builders bog smooth?

Hello @Mooky

You can use a sponge and dab the paint on to match the texture of the wall. You may also use the tip of a stiff brush to again dab on the paint to get some texture. Not a perfect match but close enough to hide the damage. When you go to Bunnings you can ask the paint specialist for tips as well.

Just an update. Turns out that a lot more was loose/cracked/flaky.

Ended up removing a larger section and replacing it with some fc board that was spare and smoothed the join with some bog.

Then I painted the entire column with some Dulux acratex Sedona for a rendered texture.

Not completely happy with the patch but good enough for me for the time being.

Many thanks for the update on your finished project. It might just be the pictures but that looks fantastic to me. When doing patching which involves external corners like this you will very rarely get a perfect undetectable finish. You have done a brilliant job of disguising the damaged area as it is barely noticeable.

Now that I have the front fence and aluminum wood slat/gate installed, the garage is looking a bit out of place. In addition, for some reason the top of the garage roller is cream where as the rest is blue (was that way when I got the house).

Is there a paint product that I can buy to paint the garage roller door to have a wood texture? if not if be happy with a matching merbau brown (in which case which paint would be best)?.

@Mooky,

In my experience, I would encourage you to steer away from trying to find a colour to match the Merbau brown or imitate timber. If you would like brown, that is perfectly fine, but you will have difficulty "matching" a timber look. You will end up with a brown colour and you might like to consider whether another colour would look more appropriate.

I would recommend Dulux Weathershield as it is a great quality self-priming paint for exterior use. It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures but the paint appears a little bit chalky. If you can run your finger over it and it leaves a blue residue on your finger you will need to prep the door before painting. I would recommend using a pressure sprayer and then scrubbing it down with Sugar soap.
