Need to get water to drain or evaporate

We have a Built-in brick planter that came with the house - approximately 16 x 4 ft

the soil in the planter is clay - we want to get water from rain to evaporate (it doesn’t now) - our problem showed up when we lined the planter with plastic sheeting (against weeds) and filled the planter with river pebbles.

rain water or spillage from watering plants outside the planter just sits and does not evaporate - the pebbles are about The depth of a horizontal brick and a half

short of drilling holes in the brick mortar (which stains the patio when the water runs out) we cannot find a way to get the water to run off or evaporate

really would appreciate any help

I'd also like to welcome you to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's great to have you join us and many thanks for your question.

As @Jason has suggested some pictures would be really helpful in understanding the current layout. It sounds like you might need to drill an outlet hole out of sight and connect a pipe to divert the drained water away from your patio. The plastic sheeting wouldn't be helping the situation as if you have covered the bottom of the planter you have effectively created a pond. Is there any way to remove the plastic sheeting and install a weed matting instead? That would at least allow the planter to drain.
