Coffee table with planter/ice insert

Made from left over treated pine sleepers, sanded smooth on the top to reveal the beautiful grain. Cut to size to fit the planter trough and joined using 12mm dowels, glued and clamped together. Hairpin steel table legs fitted underneath, then varnished.

Can be filled with plants or ice for your drinks. My niece asked me to make it and I gave it to her as a house warming present.

Quite a simple little project ready for Summer BBQs.

That looks like a fantastic and functional coffee table. I've been putting a fair amount of thought into using treated pine sleepers in furniture projects. Your table is a great example of the finish which can be achieved as I wasn't sure is something like this was possible.
