Deck renewal or replacement

I was wondering whether I should replace or repair my deck.

Most of the deck is covered and is ok but the part that is exposed to the elements has weathered somewhat.

I’m also not sure what wood the deck is made of too.

Here are a few photos. Any help/advice will be gratefully received.

The only reason you would replace the entire deck is if the underlying structure of posts, bearers and joists are compromised. If you notice any significant rot or severe cracking, then you should have a qualified professional inspect the structure.

You have some rot in at least one of the decking boards. This rot shows that more areas are likely affected. You must replace any rotted boards before you continue restoring your deck.

Hi @stevenandlizzy,

From the number of knots that are present, I am relatively certain it is Treated Pine. It appears to have been stained a darker colour. Once you have repaired and then sanded the entire deck, you can apply a decking oil which contains a stain.
