Steel cutting blade or wire brush accessory for Ryobi Line Trimmer

I have a Ryobi 18V 5.0Ah line trimmer and would like to purchase a steel cutting blade or steel wire brush that will cut larger weeds which the standard cutting line struggles with. The weeds in question have a stem width of between 3 to 6mm. Advice and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've spoken to Ryobi, and there are no blades or steel cable attachments for the Ryobi 18V 5.0Ah line trimmer. Bladed options are compatible with petrol machines, and the Ryobi 52cc 2 Stroke Easy Start Brushcutter would be an example. The brushcutter would be suitable up to around 3cm, and anything thicker would likely stall the machine.

It sounds like you might need a chainsaw or a heavy-duty lopper.

Can I ask what would happen if a metal blade was fitted? This does not cut as well as I was led to believe with either the line or plastic flailings.

Hi @jog3238,

I am not aware of any metal blades that are made for use with line trimmers, and our suppliers would not recommend it as they are not designed for it.

There are brush cutters, like this Ryobi 18V 26cm HP Brushless Brushcutter, which use a metal blade, but they are designed to take a metal blade and are used to cut dense brush, not your average trimming and edging around the house.

They are two distinct tools for two different situations. If you are looking to cut dense brush, then you may need to look at purchasing a brush cutter instead of a line trimmer.
