How do I know what Venetian blind size to purchase?

I am looking to purchase a new venetian blind to replace an old one. 

Eg: Zone Interiors 50mm Vermont Timber Venetian Blind - 600mm x 1500mm White 

How do I know which size to purchase. Do I measure the old one's width x length, or the actual window recess? Not feeling confident to install myself. Any suggestions on handymen?
