How to connect a benchtop dishwasher to a tap?

You should find it a reasonably easy conversion to adapt the dishwasher hose to your taps aerator connection.

To establish a quick-connect system so you can easily remove the hose, I would suggest you start by unscrewing the aerator. You can use an adjustable wrench for this and you'll grip the aerator on the two flat sides. Once the aerator is removed, install a Pope Indoor Tap Adaptor onto the end of the tap. Then screw a Nylex 12mm Brass Sprinkler Adaptor into the end of your dishwasher hose. A Holman 12mm Double Ended Hose Connector will join the two male connectors. The Pope Indoor Tap Adaptor has a clip that allows you to quickly disconnect the fitting and hose from your tap.

It appears your image depicts a broom holder which is holding the hose in place.

Appreciated but it should be fuss free as possible - not this and that to make what should really be one simple connection.

Bunnings should actually be supplying one suitable component with it being the only main Hardware store nationwide.

You might like to check out the other sprinkler adaptors that are available instead. Perhaps the Nylex 12mm British Sprinkler Adaptor? The Pope Indoor Tap Adaptor is suitable for taps with M22 x 1 female and M24 x 1 male threads, so it would be best to measure your tap once you have removed the aerator.

the item below might actually work and if Bunnings has something like it in stock.

Diverter/Splitter contraption that has water going in one way only with two outlets and a switch to change from one to the other.

The tap is a different style in the picture and could be wider where the aerator is located. Hoping most are generally the same universal size though.

The dishwasher hose as I understand it fits something like a washing machine tap...right?

So, I looked at the washing machine and fittings to see what was what.

Would this be fine?

The Kinetic Chrome Handspray Diverter has a 1/2 inch female BSP fitting for the inlet. You'd need to remove your aerator off the tap to see if it has a 1/2 inch male BSP fitting to suit.

As per my post above, the Pope Indoor Tap Adaptor, Holman 12mm Double-Ended Hose Connector and Nylex 12mm British Sprinkler Adaptor will allow you to connect that standard type of dishwasher hose to your tap.

Please allow me until after the weekend, and I'll make enquiries to see if we can special order the Handi Home Click On Tap Accessory for you. That will allow you to connect with two products instead of three.

Great job! Seen others mention that it is not in Bunnings or other hardware stores like small local ones.

Found that item you mentioned and have ordered it.

Still need a few things from Bunnings, however, so will get those there. E.g. Broom holder.

What is the other thing I will need for this dishwasher to tap connection?

It appears the Handi Homes click-on kit has everything you need to connect your dishwasher to your tap @MinB. There is a possibility that you might need the Nylex 12mm British Sprinkler Adaptor as it is not clear if the parts included in the kit will fit your hose.

Thanks for all your help and pointing me in the right direction.

Have screen printed the last suggestion above and have added it to what I need to get from Bunnings.

Shame your stores can no longer stock or buy the Handi Home Sink Tap Connector.

What I have read and learned over the last few days is that tap connection parts for Benchtop dishwashers is getting harder and harder to get in Australia.

USA has no issue whatsoever and everything is included with the purchase of the dishwasher.

Now I am all set up to install and get a dishwasher as have done my Bunnings trip.

BTW - The guy tried to sell me an American sink adapter not British - caught that just in time.

Removed the aerosol with no issues so now I'm ready to go once the dishwasher is sorted out which will be soon.

I read somewhere that some benchtop dishwashers actually burn the benches beneath them due to the heat when washing dishes.

Is there something I can buy to place between the dishwasher and bench - just in case?

You might like to check out this recent discussion from @Stuardo on their simple air fryer stand. Apparently, air fryers can also damage benchtops. There was a great suggestion from @JoeAzza that using a ceramic tile could also be an option.

I would advise using a heat resistant silicone mat as it should be ideal for protecting your benchtop.

The dishwasher finally came because I had to wait for a new lot to come in - black colour.

Did get an extra large silicone mat and didn't realise just how interesting that would be to put underneath.

So, have been setting it up today and have found the hose that drains the water out is perhaps too short. Can it

be affixed to the other hose with tape or is it better to buy a longer one. Not sure if working out something on a tile would suffice as it would make it even shorter.

I think it is almost already to go now....

What was the other hose that you would like to fix it to with tape? Taping hoses together isn't normally a great idea when water is involved and having a complete length would be preferable. If you could tell me the size of the rubber fittings on the end of the drain hose, then I can look for a suitable replacement. If the benchtop dishwasher uses the same size fittings as a standard dishwasher then a Kinetic 4.1m Grey PVC Washing Machine And Dishwasher Outlet Drain Expandable Hose would work. There is also a variety of sizes in clear vinyl hose that you could use too.

The silicone mat was actually lined up rather well, but I needed to get to the power outlet at the back so needed to shift the dishwasher a tad.

The drainage hose does go over the edge, but as you see it also sticks up in the air too.

What was I going to ask?

I noticed the water runs quite wild without the filtered aerator so might also get a hand held shower thing for the kitchen to clean other things that can't be done in the dishwasher. E.g. Not Stick Pans.

What would you suggest?

This Estilo Sink Hand Spray could be an option @MinB. As luck would have it, it even has a click-on fitting that would work with your click-on adaptor on the tap. That works out perfectly, and you can easily change between the dishwasher and hand spray!

Looked in the dishwasher manual and online, but can't find what kind of hose it is.

I would think normal like any other dishwasher maybe. Surely.

How does the tubing work? Is it like an extension of some kind.

You'll need to check the back of the dishwasher to see how the hose is connected to it @MinB. It might be held in place with a clamp. If this is the case, you can undo that clamp and install the longer hose. If the current hose on the machine can't be removed, then the Kinetic 4.1m Grey PVC Washing Machine And Dishwasher Outlet Drain Expandable Hose has a few different sized rubber fittings on it, and hopefully, one of those will push firmly over the end of the current hose to extend it. The addition of some tape would assist them from coming apart. However, I wouldn't advise relying on tape alone to hold them together as it could fail.

After lots of reluctant wrestling, power lifting and an unintentional strenuous workout...

Just resolved the hose issue by actually pulling the drain hose around the other side of the machine.

Perfect length, but not how I wanted it as in on the side and out of the way of visual view.

So...

Can I use something like velcrose or some other gadget to stick/attach on the side of the dishwasher itself to tidy it away when done. Ideally, it's own little box would be fantastic, but doubt whether a box like that exists for dishwasher hoses. As for that broom holder - a bit bulky perhaps.

These Command 1.8kg Broom Grippers are quite small and could be placed on the machine's back instead of on the side. That way, you could conceal the hose behind the dishwasher instead of on its side.

Testing it right now to see how it runs and there is a slight leak from the tap.

Now the thing is, when I put it together earlier today I put an extra smaller washer ring in as noticed it was leaking then and that seemed to stop it on attaching the hose and putting the water on. I actually picked up a packet of all different sizes when I was in Bunnings a few weeks back.

Wouldn't want it to pop out in full flow as kind of made that mistake when working it out with the washer situation - two towels and a tea towel later it was all good again tiles, bench and floor.

Is there anything more I can do or pick up from Bunnings to resolve it?

The washer that should be included with the hose is enough to seal it @MinB. Did you tighten the blue click-on fitting into the hose with an adjustable wrench or just by hand? I suspect the blue fitting just needs to be tightened more onto the original washer. As for solving the leak with your second washer, did you remove it, and the fitting is now leaking again?

If the water is leaking up and through the threads, you can add some thread tape to the blue fitting to stop this from occurring.

The UK blue attachment part from Bunnings was put into the hose by hand not wrench, but as it is plastic didn't think to use one.

The second washer was put inside the click on with the one it had in there where the aerator would be.

Will try the wrench idea next, but buy the thread tape as a back up just in case.

I've found the UK blue attachments work best if they are done up slightly stronger than by hand @MinB. Just a little extra tightening with a spanner normally stops them from leaking. The thread tape won't hurt either.
