I absolutely hated the timber look laminate and green tiled splash back in our house. so using a few cans of the white knight renew, the hardwood utility panels and white subway tiles I now have a bright, fresh new kitchen.
Love it @NikkiMaree, congratulations on a fantastic result.

Bench tops were the most expensive. They are $179 each.
paint was about $200 all up.
tiles were $18ish a box we used 2.
so just under $1000 all up
@NikkiMaree Well done !
Incredible work, @NikkiMaree. What a transformation.
Thanks for sharing your project costs too so that community members who may want to give this a go can have an idea of how much to budget.

WOW!! That's a beautiful transformation..Well done..
Brilliant work @NikkiMaree! A true testament of what can be achieved with a bit of D.I.Y. and inspiration. Is that a dark blue you've chosen for the cabinetry? It looks sensational.
Congratulations on your transformation; I trust you are thrilled with the results.
Many thanks for sharing.
Mitchell
Yea it’s a navy blue that is very similar to taubmans colour, admiralty.
Well done.
Did you remove the cupboard doors for painting or painting in situ?
Would you recommend roller or brush?
one coat primer and 2 of the colour to get that awesome finish? Or just one too coat?
keen to freshen my colour scheme too in a new home 🙂
Thanks for joining this discussion @lisaaa and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community.
Let me tag @NikkiMaree so they are alerted to your questions. I'll also tag our resident D.I.Y. expert @MitchellMc who will be more than happy to help.
Have you got an idea of the colour scheme you're going to go with?
Thanks for tagging. Need to replace a dark purple with black . It’s a laminate from around 12 years ago - good condition - fairly similar layout to this project .
Hey @lisaaa,
I painted them while they were still hanging as I just don’t have the space to paint them while off.
one coat of primer and 2 coats of the top coat.
the paint recommends using a 4mm microfibre roller so that’s what I used, plus a brush for cutting in.
Thanks so much for that detail - looks like you did a great job
Hi @lisaaa,
I trust @NikkiMaree has answered your question about their spectacular project.
A tip with your coats, apply them and then do not roll back over the surface trying to smooth them out. The paint will self-level, and there is no need to touch it again after applying. The biggest mistake people make is to re-roll an area once the paint has begun to tack up. Instead of flattening it, the semi-dried paint gets picked up into peaks by the roller and creates a rough texture. If you ever see someone remark that their benchtop is rough after painting it, this is likely the cause. The same applies to cabinetry.
We look forward to following along with your project. Remember to take lots of pictures and reach out if you need assistance.
@MitchellMc @Hi,If mistakes have done, how to save ? Sand it? Repaint ?Thank you very much !

Thanks for contributing to this discussion @vica.
@MitchellMc will be more than happy to help with your question when he's back on the site on Friday. In the meantime, could you share more details about your project? Are you painting kitchen cupboards? It would be great to see a photo and understand what you're working with so that @MitchellMc and the rest of our community can offer the best advice for your situation.
Thank you all!
Thanks for sharing those photos and extra details @vica.
@MitchellMc will be happy to assist when he's back on the site tomorrow.
Look forward to seeing your own kitchen refresh.
wow looks great, how did you apply it on, did you need any preprep.
I do see some tips above, I painted mine in the past, but they dont look that great.
Hi @vica,
I sincerely apologise for not getting back to you. How are you going with your project? Have you made a mistake and are trying to correct it, or are you looking to prevent a mistake?
If you made a mistake, could you please take a picture of it and I'd be happy to advise on how to fix it.
Hi @Cole_73,
Let me mention @NikkiMaree to see if they can give us a rundown on their preparation of the surfaces.
What type of roller did you use on your past project? I notice that @NikkiMaree used a 4mm nap microfibre roller, and this would also be my recommendation as it will give you a very smooth finish.
Are you looking to paint another kitchen? If so, it would be great if you'd like to share it with us, as I trust our members will be keen to follow along with the process.
@MitchellMc As it is winter now ,I don’t think it is good time to paint cupboard. You are so nice and have helped me a lot ! Vica
It's always a pleasure to assist you, @vica.
You can still paint now, but you'll find the paint will take longer to dry. If you'd like to complete the project over a weekend, you might need to wait for it to warm up a bit. Please let us know when it comes time to paint as we would be more than happy to provide advice on your project.
@MitchellMc I will report back my experience when I have finished my project . Thank you so much and have a nice weekend!
Hey @Cole_73 I really just followed all of the instructions on the can.
basically a really good clean with the white knight tile and laminate cleaner and a good rinse with water. then 1 coat of the primer.
with the top coat laying off all in the one direction. Light sand in between coats as well.
Wow, what a great job, congratulations!
I'm also a fan of White Knight laminate paint. I painted my ugly light grey kitchen cupboards white around three years ago and the paint is still looking great save for a couple of small chips. Highly recommend this paint, it wipes clean well.
I had planned to rip out and replace the whole kitchen this year but priorities have changed and after seeing your post I'm now thinking painting the tiles and replacing the benchtops and sinks might be the way to go instead.
Thank you!
Great work @NikkiMaree What colour white did you use? It looks glossy, is it gloss or satin?
Looks unreal! Well done! May I ask what the benchtops are that you have used? Looking for something similar for our kitchen
@S-A-S-C-H-A
It’s taubmans Milk cloud and it is a gloss finish.
@dinaandjake
Thank you. they are the Hardwood laminated panels 2400x900, my husband cut the narrow one down and cut the holes for sink and stove etc and I’ve done 3 coats of cabots benchtop clear in satin finish.
