A personalised bath caddy was made from an old table top with space for tealight candles, an iPad, wine glass and bottle.

The project
My daughter asked if I could build a bath caddy as a gift for a housemate who spends a considerable amount of time in the tub.
This was originally a dining table top that I picked up at an auction. I cut it on the table saw and joined two of the thicker 40mm edge panels together with PVA glue and biscuits. It is 900mm wide and 240mm deep.

I drew up the design in CNC software and carved a slot for an iPad, recessed pockets for tealight candles and a wine bottle and also a cut out for a wine glass. I engraved a rose design on the left and also a monogram of the recipient's initials NPW.
I first sanded the original finish back to bare timber.

I stained it and sprayed with five coats of clear lacquer, then waxed and buffed it with my homemade furniture wax for additional protection from water splashes.

While I have the luxury of owning a CNC router, this project could quite easily be achieved with a handheld router (without the engraving).

To prevent the bath caddy sliding around, there are two strips of rubber on the underside where the shelf makes contacts with the bath.
