Grid Connect sensor for multiple lights

I'm looking to get the Deta Grid Connect Smart Compact PIR Sensor (https://www.bunnings.com.au/deta-grid-connect-smart-compact-pir-sensor_p0129567) to replace a standard sensor on my front verandah light. Pretty obviously, the sensor will still work to turn on/off my existing wall light (with the benefit of remote access), but does this Grid Connect sensor have the option to also trigger multiple devices? Ideally, I'd like it to also turn on the garden lights as well (they're connected to a Grid Connect plug in socket).

I'm hoping there will just be an option to set a "scene" where I can say "if motion detected on front verandah, turn on wall light + garden lights"?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @n860cr. It's terrific that you've joined us and many thanks for your question on our Grid Connect products.

Your 240v light/s (with a maximum of 1200w) needs to be directly hard-wired into the Deta Grid Connect Smart Compact PIR Sensor by an electrician. Unfortunately, the sensor does not have the ability to activate Grid Connect plug-in sockets remotely.

This ability certainly seems like it would be convenient to have, so I've passed that feedback on to the supplier.

Thanks. So I guess then if I go with the smart sensor (https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-grid-connect-smart-motion-sensor_p0148572) and hub, plus a Grid Connect globe in the verandah light, I'd be able to set a scene to turn multiple devices on?

I need to apologise. I've now been given additional information that would suggest that the Deta Grid Connect Smart Compact PIR Sensor is indeed suitable for the situation you initially described. I have been assured that it can operate a hard-wired light and can be used to set a scene where it will remotely operate Grid Connect sockets at the same time.

Very easy in the end. Sensor is a straight replacement for existing hardwired movement sensors and, once installed, works easily through the Grid Connect app. Just go into "automation" and setup "when sensor switches to on, turn on power outlet xx" and the same for turning it off. Now my garden lights turn on when somebody triggers the verandah light. Only slight irritant is the automation will turn the garden lights off if I've got them manually on and somebody triggers the sensor (but that can be solved by just toggling the automation off).

Grid Connect range is getting very good. Just wish they'd improve the security camera playback options!

Can you post up your chain of automation so we can see why your garden lights might be turning off when in manual mode at all? Just a screen shot of the automation sequence.

Hi there,

I appreciate this thread is quite old but I'm looking to do something similar, albeit using Deta Grid Connect Smart Switch Mechanisms (https://www.bunnings.com.au/deta-grid-connect-smart-switch-mechanism_p0346912) to give me both remote & local control of flood lights. I was then looking at potentially installing a smart sensor to trigger one or more of the flood lights via the smart switches. However, it looks like the Deta smart sensor referenced in this thread has been discontinued. It appears that the only wifi Deta Smart Sensor is Deta Grid Smart Outdoor Lux and Motion Sensor (https://www.bunnings.com.au/deta-grid-connect-smart-switch-mechanism_p0346912), which seems to be trigger by light, & also is only rated IP44 weatherproof.

I'd also be interested in finding out whether the issue with the lights turning off when in manual mode.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Just so we can point you in the right direction, could I clarify a couple of things about what you’re hoping to achieve? From what you’ve written, it sounds like you’re looking for a motion-activated sensor that is Grid Connect compatible, can be used outdoors, and is weatherproof enough to reliably trigger your floodlights. Is that right?

You also mentioned the lights turning off when in manual mode. Are you asking whether the smart switch will override the sensor so that you can keep the lights on continuously?

If you could let us know exactly how you’d like the lights to behave (for example, “turn on by motion after dark, but stay on if I switch them on manually”), it will help narrow down the options and whether the current Grid Connect products can achieve it.

Yes, ideally I'm hoping that the smart switch will override the sensor so that you can keep the lights on continuously (my mention of the sensor turning off the lights when they were in manual mode was in regards to the issue raised by the original poster - it sounded like in their case when the lights were on, the function of the motion sensor changed to turn them off)

What I am ideally looking for would be something like what follows:

Smart Switch functions at switch or via app:

Turn lights on
Turn lights off

Motion sensor function:

Turn lights on (only)

And then potentially some schedule via the app that can turn the lights off after a certain time (eg. 1 hour)

I have been tuned into this conversation and kept quiet because, for various reasons $$$, limited device availability and often not DIY (need sparky) - I don't do Grid Connect. Anyway what about this.

Deta Grid Smart Outdoor Lux and Motion Sensor

@CSParnell that says 'Most Grid Connect products are compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa (sold separately), so you can operate your system with the ultimate convenience.' - I suspect that's incorrect.

I have always done the Alexa thing and all the devices I purchase are also Google compatible.

Interesting that when I got the newly released Google TV Streamer 4K last year it comes with a smart hub and while I was setting up the entertainment apps Google Home was scanning the network and registered all my 'Alexa' devices.

Long press on the Home button brings up this panel and there's Google Home.

Note: When I took those screenshots I was also upgrading the FW on one of the dedicated access points so some of the devices are offline - more info. For anyone doing the smart home thing I always recommend not to use ISP modem wi-fi for their smart home network, instead use a dedicated access point which for me has improved network reliability. I actually use two TP-Link access points with one located outside because there are more devices outside (than inside) like Alexa wi-fi water features, bird baths, bird feeders, mailbox delivery system, front gates intrusion detection and

As long as you connect your Grid Connect / Tuya devices to your Google Home Eco System they will appear in there.
