Hardwood dining table

This dining table was made using six pieces of Australian Messmate timber and custom steel legs.

The project

I made a beautiful 2.1m x 1.1m dining table using an Australian hardwood called Messmate. The timber is 40mm thick and I attached custom black steel fabricated legs.

Great project LePallet! What was the finish you used on the table? Also, where did you source the timber?

I'm considering replacing several of my inside doors with messmate / Tas Oak barn style sliding doors. One of which will be in a humid bathroom and I still need to figure out how to compensate for that.

Let me mention @LePallet, so they are alerted to your question, and hopefully, he can fill us in.

Were you constructing these doors yourself? If not, it would be wise to follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding using them in a high humidity environment. I suspect the one for the bathroom will need to be entirely sealed with a coating similar to Cabot's Cabothane.What sizes of Messmate timber were you looking for? We have a range of kiln-dried hardwood timber in similar sizes to what's used in this project. However, I suspect that is not necessarily what you're after. We can also Special Order an extensive array of Hardwood from one of our suppliers, Pentarch Forestry. You might like to check out their timber products to see if something would suit your project.

Thanks, @MitchellMc for the advice on the Cabothane. I was looking at using these Laminated Hardwood Panels as the doors. They are 100mm too short, but I think I can live with that. The challenge would be that I need to pick out the panels myself to ensure I have the best-looking faces (and ensure the panels have not warped or cupped).

You'll notice that these Laminated Hardwood Panels are sometimes wrapped individually in plastic. The trick to keeping the panels from getting moisture damage is to keep the covering intact. The timber retains its moisture and prevents it from drying and twisting. The only time you take the covering off is when you're ready to work on it. My number one tip is to seal the door with polyurethane as soon as you can. The longer you leave it without any seal, the more likely it is to be damaged by moisture.
