This pink-tiled laundry with dim lighting was transformed into a bright and modern space with new tiles, cabinets, lighting and open shelving.
The project
The laundry was the room I avoided the most because of the beige peeling paint, pink tiles with cracked grout, dim lighting and dark timber slatted cupboards. Our goal was to modernise the space and make it more appealing as it’s a high traffic area right near the back door.
Here's what we did:
- Scraped down, patched up, sanded, primed and painted all walls and trims. We used Taubmans Grey Windswept Beach for the walls, Vivid White for the trims and Colorbond Monument for the sink cover.
- Replaced the tiling above the sink and took it right across the wall and down the floor to make the room look bigger. Used light grey grout to match the walls.
- Installed and modified a new gas-lift cabinet to hide the ugly taps and power point, which also added storage inside and above this cabinet.
- Converted the old hot water cupboard into open shelving using Oak shelving and white hardware.
This is now my favourite renovated room in the house. Total cost was around $700, including the wet tile cutter. We got a good result while also being able to keep some of our budget for updating other rooms in the house.
