Hi team,
I'd like to replace this main garden tap with 1/4 turn tap. Based on the photos attached, would you be able to tell if this is size 15mm or 20mm? I can see a brasshead reducer is being used as well, I do believe it's 15mm but just wanted to double check as this is a remote location and the housekeeper sent me the photos. Thank you!
Hi @amiraljaberi
Seems to me that your best bet would be 20mm, if you got a 15mm and it was too small then there is an issue, with the 20mm if it is too big, simply remove the reducer, if it is 25mm simply leave the reducer in place. The only question would be, if you have to remove the reducer, will there be enough clearance to turn the tap but as you are going for a quarter turn tap, will that be an issue?
@amiraljaberi
Just an idea if you want to be totally sure, zoom or reduce the image on your computer until the picture of the hose connector measures the same as a standard hose connector and then measure the tap thread in the picture. this will give you a clear indication of the size you should buy.
Thank you @R4addZ Ill prob just get both sizes to be safe.
You will probably be able to return the other for a credit anyway.
Actually, you're right, it is a 20 mm BSP inlet based on the 2-way brass tap being used. The 2-way tap should fit both 20 mm and 25 mm outlets, but as shown in the image, it isn't being used with a reducer, so the outlet is definitely 25 mm. That means the inlet must be 20 mm. The splitter used is the same as this one:

Hello @amiraljaberi
Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.
It's good that you've received sound advice from @R4addZ. In general, any changes that involve moving or reconfiguring pipework would be considered regulated plumbing work and would need to be carried out by a licensed plumber.
If you have already purchased the tap, please make sure to keep the docket in a safe spot, it will make the exchange easier should you decide to swap it for another size.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
