Inspiring kitchen, bathroom and garden makeovers are among the winners of this year’s search for Australia’s best D.I.Y. projects of the year.
Our expert judging panel (which included Workshop community D.I.Y. wizard Mitch Mclean) faced an incredibly difficult challenge selecting winners this year given the high quality of projects submitted.
We loved how many projects were not only highly creative but also budget-savvy and very achievable for other community members to replicate in their own homes.
All projects can be found on our gallery so you can continue to get inspiration from the clever and creative projects shared.
Congratulations to the following winners. You can read more in the September issue of the Bunnings magazine which is out today.
Best bathroom or laundry makeover
Mediterranean farmhouse laundry reno
A complete laundry renovation using Kaboodle cabinetry, VJ panelling and a European Oak benchtop by Kendall (@kendallmac). The shelf with hanging rack is a particularly useful addition, while the striking floor is reclaimed European roof tiles.
Best kitchen makeover
Rustic farmhouse kitchen renovation
A comprehensive kitchen renovation, transforming a dark and cluttered kitchen into a bright and airy workspace with a lot more room for food preparation. Helena (@helsbren) did much of the work herself, including demolition, tiling and cladding the rangehood.

Kids bedroom with reading nook and desk
Cleverly using wallpaper with MDF wainscotting and blue “Vintage Denim” paint, this kids bedroom is stylish and sophisticated. Amy (@TheSparrowHome) created the feature wall and reading nook for her seven-year-old son as part of a larger renovation project.
Best small project
D.I.Y. timber side table
Taking less than an hour to build, this simple yet stylish side table by Samantha (@sammilne ) was constructed using timber panels. The table was sealed with Cabot’s Cabothane Clear, showcasing the timber’s natural beauty.
Best upcycling makeover
Upcycled cabinet into bathroom vanity
A large varnished cabinet was upcycled and repurposed as a bathroom vanity with new quartz stone top and dual basins by Claire and Derek (@Renowayoflife). Claire even made the drawer pulls from dowel and copper plumbing tees and then painted them in bronze.
Best community project
Upcycling furniture for women's shelter
Bunnings Workshop community member Jemma (@jemma11) upcycled over 100 pieces of furniture, art and homewares for a local women’s shelter. Colour choices and the overall design scheme were designed to lift the mood.

Courtyard garden makeover
A formerly unused space was transformed into a modern, Japanese-inspired garden by Claire and Deon (@homeforeverhome). The Maple tree is a beautiful feature and the project also included adding James Hardie cladding and spray painting the window frames.
Congratulations to all community members
Congratulations to all Bunnings Workshop members who submitted a project. You should be proud of what you have achieved and we thank you for helping to inspire other members to take on new D.I.Y. projects.
We certainly understand it can sometimes feel a little intimidating to share your work publicly, but we’re confident you have found Workshop to be an incredibly encouraging and supportive community. Please don’t hesitate to hit the Share a project button whenever you have a new project to share with us. We’re looking forward to seeing what you can achieve around your home and garden.
Thanks also to the supporters of the project search this year: British Paints, Dulux, 3M Scotch Blue and Safety Brands. We appreciate your support of the Workshop community and encouraging people to have a go at their own home improvement projects.
