Best fittings to allow for two washing machines?

Hello Bunnings team,

I have two washing machines which I want to use both of them for different functions. They both have normal inlet hoses and flexible grey outlet hoses, but my new laundry has just a single water tap and a single bypass hole on the top of the laundry sink. I saw that under the sink there are two unused washing machine waste pipe spigots. What are some options for me to get both washing machines setup and what parts would I need?

Re: Best fittings to allow for two washing machines?

Hi @Katia1,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

To attach the two inlet hoses, you should be able to use this BOSTON 3/4" Washing Machine Y Hose Adaptor assuming the tap and hoses match the thread diameter. They are designed to fit standard washing machine inlet hoses, so I'd be surprised if your tap and hoses didn't.

For the outlet hoses, utilising the two spigots is your best option. Check out How to connect a dishwasher which outlines how to do the exact same thing with a dishwasher as opposed to a washing machine.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Jacob,

if you do not have the two spigot for outlets, is there anything you can do?

I am in the same position and need to connect a second washing machine but do not have the 2nd outlet spigot (1 only). Any suggestions you could give with what to do in the situation with only one would be greatly appreciated posted as I am finding it very difficult to to find any videos or suggestions online

Re: Best fittings to allow for two washing machines?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @caleotto. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about connecting washing machines.

If you will only ever be using one machine at a time, then you could potentially use a barbed fitting to join the hoses together at the spigot. However, if the machines ever sent water to waste simultaneously, it could cause all sorts of issues. Anything from minor flooding to completely burning out the washing machine's motors. It would be best to hire a plumber and have them replace your single-spigot waste with a two-spigot model, like the Holman 50mm S&P Trap Combo Set.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
