Can you trim 40mm off a Hume barn door?

Hi

I'm looking to buy the Hume 2150 x 1000 x 35mm Internal Barn Door Frontier FBDS1.

I know its not reccomended to trim more than 3mm iff each side but is it possible to trim 40mm of each side of this door and 10mm off the top?

We have a 2140 x 920 x 35 requirements for a door.

Re: Trim - Hume 2150 x 1000 x 35mm Internal Barn Door Frontier FBDS1

Hi @Hillmatt33,

Trimming the Hume 2150 x 1000 x 35mm Internal Barn Door Frontier FBDS1 by 40mm off each side is unfortunately not possible. Removing that much would cut away nearly all of the vertical frame timbers, or a very large proportion of them, which would drastically reduce the structural integrity of the door. While trimming 10mm off the top (or a few millimetres off the top and bottom) is feasible, anything larger than about 10mm per side would require cutting out the internal vertical frame, repositioning it, and then gluing and fixing it and essentially, rebuilding the door’s frame to maintain strength. For such large adjustments, the door cannot simply be cut down.

Your best option would be to contact the Special Orders desk in-store, where the team can liaise with Hume to see if a custom-made door in your required size of 2140 x 920 x 35mm can be produced.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
