Does Crommelin Aquablock need painting over on a bathroom ceiling?

So I've put my first coat of Aquablock on my bathroom ceiling after scraping off some flaking paint and patching some holes with plaster. I'm about to put a second coat on and was wondering if there is any real reason to put a finishing coat of ceiling white over the top? The Aquablock itself is a nice white colour.

Hello @Helmutson

I have used Aquablock in my own bathroom and it is quite tempting to just use Aquablock as it has such a superb finish. But it is technically classified as a primer which means that it will not have the same characteristics as a topcoat paint layer. I therefore suggest painting over the Aquablock with your preferred choice of ceiling paint.

Hi Eric,

Thanks again for the reply, this forum is great for getting questions answered.

I've just applied the second coat and it is looking even better than after the first coat. It does come up rather shiny so I suppose a flat ceiling white will take the "shine" off a bit. Did you put one or two coats of top coat on after the Aquablock? I'm wondering if I can get away with just one. 4 coats of paint just on the ceiling feels like overkill.

Re: Does Crommelin Aquablock need painting over on a bathroom ceiling?

Hello @Helmutson

It may feel excessive at the moment but trust me in the long run all that extra protection from the moisture generated in the bathroom will be worth it. The ceiling paint will be bullet proof and will not easily get damaged. I followed the paint manufacturers advice and use two coats for the top coat.
