Farmhouse laundry renovation

So excited to share our completed laundry reno!

Before:

This room was pretty much a complete re-do but so happy with how its turned out & one of my favourite rooms we have completed now!

We made the decision early on that we were going to actually make the Laundry SMALLER 😅 to allow for our future Bathroom/Toilet Reno which will give us a separate toilet from the bathroom. Our laundry space connects directly to the mudroom as well so wanted to make sure we created a functional laundry utilising the smaller space but also a cohesive & enjoyable space that you didn’t dread having to walk into all the time!

We went against the trend & ripped out our washer and dryer “under the bench styled laundry” & raised the washer and dryer with large deep draws underneath. The amount of extra storage now compared to the overheads is incredible… the draws are easily accessible and so much more practical for everyday use in my home than the small overhead cupboards.

Below is a breakdown of what we have used to create the space(sorry for the very long post, just like to cover as much as possible for everyone)😁 if you’re looking for any extra details please feel free to reach out so very happy to share any advice and answer any questions. There is also a lot more info on our Instagram account too https://www.instagram.com/housetohomeinhaddon/ feel free to follow along on our Reno journey.

We started by Flipping the current sliding door from the left to the right…. we did this as we were bringing the current laundry wall forward 800mm & the door wouldn’t fit in its current location but also to allow for the natural light to come through into the Laundry space from the mudroom.

Pocket Frame and Door purchased from Bunnings

Best part clean out & DEMO!

We also built the new Laundry wall & had the plumbing moved!

10.jpg  11.jpg

Plastered up the new wall ...oh forgot had to rip out the old slate floor (now that was a job) & lay the new floor tiles all supplies and tiles bought from Bunnings of course!

Simple Matt Black tile to flow in from the mudroom was used here.

Now onto the FUN PART 😁

All the lower Laundry wall is Kaboodle - bases, fronts, hardware all purchased through Bunnings.

We have used

1 x 900mm Base Cabinet with 2 x 450mm Cabinet Doors

2 x 600mm 2 drawer base Cabinet with the 600mm 2 Drawer Panels

Benchtop Hazelnut Kaboodle

Fronts are a Country profile in the RAW door (we painted ourselves) following a Bunnings video from the website

Colour and paint we used was Porters Paints in the French Green bought at Bunnings 😃 – we also used this colour in our mudroom and love both the colour and finish of this paint!

We used BC Plywood as our filler and end panels to allow for the same spacing’s, just creates a nicer finish in the end.

We also used this to create the boxes for the washer and dryer and where the laundry baskets are homed.

20.jpg  21.jpg  19.jpg

We covered the open side with a really thin piece of ply and the face of the BC PLY was covered with a finishing pine 30mm and everything painted out in the French green!

To continue the flow of the mudroom brick we used “brick facings” as our splashback/back wall finish. Glued onto Blue Board with liquid nails and then grouted using standard mortar mix.

23.jpg  24.jpg  22.jpg

We completed our walls with shiplap …. we use the TruChoice White Primed Shiplap boards from Bunnings : tip if your paining them a colour always pre paint your lip/join otherwise trying to get a paint brush in the gap s not fun… take it from someone who learnt early on ….also a little stylish ledge, a DYI shelf from the left over ply wood and hooks all bought from bunnings to bring her to life & finish her off!

LOVE this transformation such a good idea to raise the washer/dryer and have the storage underneath, well done! I hope to start my laundry reno in a couple of weeks and may have to steal some ideas.

Re: Farmhouse laundry renovation

Hi @LizzyF

You can buy brick facings from a lot of the brick manufactures, or if you have actual bricks you can also have them sent off to be cut as well. We have mixture from Selkirk Bricks (cut reds) and also Austral bricks who sell the facings per box. As we were trying to match to the original bricks as much as possible we chose to mix it up.

Thanks!

Re: Farmhouse laundry renovation

Thx Hayley - I saw them on display at Subiaco Home Base and wondered if yours were commercially acquired or home created. Have old bricks. Will get hold of a brick saw and give it a go. Thinking of facing the base of a steel post timber surround.
