I recently noticed that my shower screen has been leaking and it has starting to rot the skirting board and architraves of the adjacent door. I have had someone come out to look at it and he redid the caulking however, he said if that doesn’t work it will likely require a whole new shower frame. it appears to still be leaking post his visit.
I just replaced the glass in the frame so was wondering if I can just replace the frame and reuse the new glass.
Hello @mickb
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your shower frame.
Your shower frame is made of aluminium which means that it will tarnish but not deteriorate. There is no need for you to get a new frame it just needs to be cleaned off. Your main issue I suspect is a leak somewhere along the floor of your shower assembly. It's possible that the joint between your floor and the shower aluminium frame has deteriorated and sprung a leak. There is also a possibility that water is passing through the grout and travelling under the tiles getting the corner wet. The last possibility is that water is bridging along the aluminium frame and is going through the gap and is being drawn out by capillary action.
I propose using CPC 220ml Shower Plug Sealant to seal your shower floor. I also recommend putting silicone sealant on the joints of your aluminium frame where water may enter.
If after all these suggestions and leaks still continue, it will be necessary to remove the shower door and frame and have it re-installed with new seals.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves goggles and a mask.
