Re: How open The Tap to Change Washer

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Sunie. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about replacing a tap washer.

Now that you've removed the hot or cold nut off the top of the tap, the tap handle should pull straight up off the spindle. Once the tap handle is removed, you can unscrew the chrome cover flange that meets the basin. Underneath that flange, you’ll find the nut and spindle, which you can undo to access the tap valve and replace the washer.

Here’s a helpful guide on How to replace a tap washer to assist you further.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How open The Tap to Change Washer

Thanks for your reply Mitchell.

The tap handle does not come out.

Not sure if that is due some kind of screw in the middle..I tried using a mixer tap spanner set but does not seem to work.

Am I missing something  🤔

Kindly help

Kind regards

Re: How open The Tap to Change Washer

The screw that retains the handle on the spindle is inside the Hot/Cold button that you've already un-screwed off the top @Sunie. The handle should just pull off, but is likely stuck due to build up and grime. Try tapping the bottom of the handle in an upward direction. Move around the handle, tapping each of the four sections.

There are a few different types of ways T-handles attach, as per below. However, yours should be the one of the right that only needs the button removed.

T-handle

T-handle taps typically have a grub screw located on the side, a hidden nut underneath or a screwed hot/cold button on top. Remove the grub screw with an Allen key, the hidden nut with a vandal-proof spanner, or the button with an adjustable wrench to release the handle.
