How to add an extra bathroom?

Hi everyone,

I’m exploring options for adding an additional bathroom to a property and would really appreciate any suggestions or insights from those who have done something similar.

I’d also love to get a rough idea of the cost involved for it .

How about converting the laundry room into an additional bathroom, but I’m unsure if this is the best option. I’m also trying to figure out where the laundry could be relocated within the house if I go ahead with this plan ?

Thanks for sharing your plans—adding an extra bathroom is a great way to improve both liveability and value. Looking at the idea of converting the laundry, a good first step would be to assess whether there's enough space in the existing laundry to comfortably fit a shower and toilet.

If there is, you might not need to relocate the laundry at all. One practical approach is to install a benchtop over the washing machine and add a compact vanity or bathroom sink. This would give you a functional bathroom-laundry combination without the need for major relocation work, which can be costly.

Obviously, plans are not always to scale, but although tight, it looks like a toilet and shower might fit.

In terms of cost, it will largely depend on the extent of plumbing and waterproofing required. Costs can increase quickly if major plumbing changes are needed, such as moving waste or water supply lines. Prices also vary between locations, so it’s difficult to provide a ballpark figure. The best approach would be to get a few quotes from licensed tradespeople to get an accurate idea based on your specific space and location.
