How to change a bath spout?

How to change a bath spout?

I have a bath spout that I can't completely change without removing tiles etc, I was wondering, does anyone know of a spout with diverter that would fit this connection, or is there an adapter to fit over it that would make it a screw option, so easier for me to find spout with diverter? Cheers in advance.

Re: How to change a bath spout?

Hi @RobL77,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

I can't say I am aware of a spout that could be connected to this outlet.

If you could advise the brand, and if you could find the specific model of this tap, I could have a look at the technical drawings to see if there is a solution that could work for you.

You can see that there is a seam at the base of the square around the outlet.

If it is possible to remove this piece, I suspect you would have access to the plumbing connection behind it that would allow you to replace the spout.

If you could do some inspection to see if this can be removed, we might be closer to a solution. It might just pop off, or you may need to remove the circular sections as well. Try using a flathead screwdriver with some masking tape over the head to pop the pieces off.

Let me know what you find, and if you can find a brand and model, that would certainly help.

Re: How to change a bath spout?

Hi JacobZ, I tried removing the surrounds, they don't come off, I believe it's one unit that connects to the back part of the tap (piping), It's a Caroma, as far as model , no idea, everything is firmly fixed. Think it will be live as is.

Re: How to change a bath spout?

Hi @RobL77,

I've had a look and it certainly looks like it is the Caroma Quatro Solid Wall Bath Mixer

Having a look at the Installation Guidelines, the wall base, labelled part 13, which is the round piece labelled below, should be able to be removed.

You might need to use a tool such as some multigrip pliers to grip the wall base. If you cover the pliers with a few layers of painter's tape, you should still have grip, but the chrome would be protected.

If you could remove this piece, we could evaluate whether the threaded plumbing pipe is near enough to the surface that a replacement bath spout is possible.

Let me know how you go.

Re: How to change a bath spout?

Hi Jacob, it's off and has plenty thread by look of it. Guess I can put one on?

Re: How to change a bath spout?

Hi @RobL77

It looks like you should be in business.

Start by giving the thread a quick clean-up with a Wet And Dry Sanding Sheet, then apply a few layers of thread tape around the thread.

The thread should be 1/2 inch BSP, so a tap like this Shaw & Mason Chrome Standard Bath Spout could be a good option.

I would just select something that is chrome to match the existing finish.

Let me know how you go.
