How to connect Holman DMV PVC under sink?

Hines to connect my laundry sinks waste drain to the p trap, which is current off by 40mm.

My plan is to buy an 45degree elbow and pipes to extend so it will reach.

I want to use this product to screw directly onto the bottom of my sink and use solvent to glue a 50mm pipe to it.

my question is, for the threaded connection, ie where I screw to the bottom of my sink, do I need to use some sort of sealant?? Or rubber ring or such?

i m little bit confused because looking at my existing p trap I have and the p trap kits u can buy, all the thread connections seems to have a nut and a rubber ring, but you cant seem to get those outside of a p trap kit?

Hi @jeffl_au,

Just a heads-up that anything to do with connecting fittings underneath a sink is classed as plumbing work, so by law it needs to be done by a licensed plumber.

Looking at your setup, is the connector pipe that travels towards the camera and finishes in the bottom right currently connected to anything? It looks a lot like you may have had a double-bowl sink setup here in the past. If that’s the case, your plumber is going to have a tough time adapting neatly to the flanged section at the top of your pipe. I’m not sure if that was connected to the underside of your previous sink waste, but the way it’s sitting now, there isn’t really a fitting that allows you to simply glue or screw straight onto that large conical connector.

What would typically happen here is that the entire fitting at the top would be taken back down to the last screw connector. From there, the vertical pipe would be extended upwards and shifted across if needed for alignment, and then a new double bowl sink connector would be fitted if both outlets are in use, or simplified if one is redundant.

What you’re suggesting with the female iron adaptor might possibly be made to work in theory, but in practice, I don’t think you’ll get a watertight or reliable joint onto that conical connector. This is really a situation where the configuration should be redone by a plumber from the P-trap back up, rather than trying to cobble together something that may end up leaking.

Regarding your questions about the iron adapter, it would require Plumber's tape on the threads of the sink waste to seal them.

The conical bit will be removed. I ve circled that out in the new image (purple).

I now have a single drain u can see in that picture. The red outline shows the connection that I want to make.

Then in answer to your question @jeffl_au, plumbers tape is what is used for the connection to the sink waste. For the connection to the sink trap a plumber would likely use a Holman 50mm PVC DWV Male Threaded Iron Adaptor.
