Hello,
I've recently moved into a new place and encountered a washing machine drain outlet setup I haven't seen before. The outlet is significantly larger than the machine's drain pipe, and there's a P-trap at the end. When I simply drop the pipe into the outlet (as shown in the photo), water spurts out during the drain cycle.
Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to securely and properly connect the drain pipe to this type of outlet.
Regards,
Kaus
What you have is not normal. Normally there would only be one s trap with a spur on the side that the washing machine pipe would be attached to. Or the second s bend that the hose is going into would have had a vertical pipe that went to a hole in the corner of the sink above and the washing machine hose put in from there. I would probably remove the s bend that the washing machine hose is in and cap it and then replace the s bend from the sink with one with a side spur and attach the hose to it. Bunnings has caps ($4) s bends with spur ($6-10) they do come in different diameters 40 and 50mm so check what size pipe you have. You will need to drill out the centre of the spur and clamp the washing machine hose JDE

Hello @kauspet
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your washing machine outlet.
Just a friendly reminder that any plumbing works must be carried out by a licensed plumber for safety and compliance.
I suggest having a quick look at this guide - How to connect a dishwasher the techniques to connecting the outlet hose are very similar. I propose looking at changing the "S" trap where your exit hose is connected to into a Caroma 50mm White Combination S And P Traps With Dishwasher Connection. This trap is very similar except it has a dishwasher connection where you can also connect a washing machine outlet. Please make sure to drill the dishwasher connection before connecting the exit hose.
Once you've managed to replace the trap, I suggest covering the top with a Holman 50mm PVC DWV Male Threaded Iron Adaptor and capping it off with a Holman 50mm PVC DWV Push On Cap. You can use Protek 125ml Type N Blue Cement Solvent to join and seal the PVC parts together. This will prevent water from coming out of the trap.
