Hi guys,
I need to convert this corner shower 870mm into a walk-in shower. Could you please advise how to do so?
The bathroom has dimensions L2495 x W1795, bathtub L1620 x W725 and vanity 600mm.
Is it possible to leave the tiles? Or do I have to demolish the tiles, rewaterproof and re-tile? I am trying to make it the most economical way possible.
I'll replace the vanity with a slim wall hung vanity L600mm x D385 x W330.
Do you think an 800mm or 900mm frameless glass panel is better? The 900mm frameless glass panel effectively avoids water splash, but a very chubby person may struggle to get through the vanity and the shower screen.
Thanks
Hi @Beginner20,
Unfortunately, I think the renovations should be put on hold until the asbestos is dealt with by a professional or, at the very least, assessed and conversations are had about how best to move forward.
When fully intact, asbestos sheeting is not a massive issue, but if you are removing tiles or moving plumbing around, there's a very high chance that the sheeting will get damaged, which will release those harmful asbestos fibres into the air.
Unfortunately, I don't see it being possible to remove tiles without causing damage to the asbestos and risking exposure to yourself and your family. It is always best to err on the side of caution when asbestos is involved.

Hi @Beginner20
without a few photos of the entire room to get a better understanding of which wall remain with asbestos.
Having said that if it was me, I would be taking the opportunity to remove it.
There are lots of important safety considerations when handling and disposing of Asbestos. It’s not a cheap exercise to have this done for you, but worth getting quotes on to check if it’s an affordable vs DIY.

Good Morning @Beginner20
I would suggest going the route of removing the asbestos, You have issues now that are better delt with by replacing the bathroom wholly. Trying to not damage a wall, smooth it back, drill holes into it is not an option I would try. Get a few quotes on asbestos removal by qualified people who will dispose of it properly and then you will have a clean slate to start with. Bathrooom issues usually are hidden until you try to fix, then you find how long the issue has been there 😕 Its a pain but less of a pain if you do a patch and then have to gutt everything later on.
