How to rip out a bath tub, then tile a shower floor on the concrete slab where the old tub was. The space is 1.440 Meters x .730 mm.
that i have to work with.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Gordo1. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removin a bath and tiling.
Before you do anything, it’s important to consider the age of your property. Bath panels and surrounding bathroom sheets from older homes often contain asbestos, particularly marble-effect or wet-area panels from that era. Because of the serious health risks, the very first step is to have any panels tested for asbestos before touching or removing them.
If asbestos is detected, you should not attempt to remove it yourself. You’ll need to engage a licensed asbestos removal specialist to safely take out the panels and properly clean the area. This is essential before you even think about removing the bath or any framing, as disturbing asbestos-containing material can release dangerous fibres into the air.
Once the area is cleared and safe, removing a bath typically involves: turning off and disconnecting the plumbing, detaching the tapware, cutting or removing any framing around the bath, and carefully lifting it out. After the bath is out, you can prepare the concrete slab for a tiled shower floor by ensuring the surface is level, installing a waterproof membrane or tray system, and then tiling.
Once the marble-effect panelling is removed, it will become much more obvious how to disassemble the bath frame. You'll then need to re-clad the walls down to the floor before moving on to the tiling.
