Re: how to detect stud, wire or pipe in a Brick or concrete house

Hi @jzenelle_guinto,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Stud finders are designed for use on plasterboard and work by detecting changes in density. Unfortunately, due to the markedly higher density of brick and concrete, a standard stud finder is insufficient for detecting services in this wall.

You'd need to use a scanning tool like this DWD181ZJ- 18V Surface Scanner, which costs in the region of $1,600. It can be ordered through our Special Orders desk if you'd like to, but it is almost certainly overkill for one relatively small job.

Unfortunately, your best option is likely going to be having a concrete scanning company come out and scan your walls for you. The cost of this service would be justifiable if you consider the cost of repairs if anything were damaged.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
