How to fill gap between bathroom floor and wall?

I'm ripping off the old bathroom and came across this it's a highset house.

Why is there such a large gap between the wall and the floor?

What can I do about this,

It's a Steel frame house with styrofoam at the back of the wall.

Re: bathroom renovation

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @dayi. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about wall sheets.

It looks like the wall sheeting simply hasn’t been finished off properly against the floor. I’m not sure why such a large gap was left, but it doesn’t appear to serve any necessary function — it’s likely just an area that was never properly filled or finished. It’s also possible that when removing your tiles, a thin strip of board that was used as a joiner behind them has come away with the demolition. Since it's a steel-framed house, you’ll need to fix this by installing a new piece of cement wallboard to bridge the gap and tie into your steel studs. This will give you a solid base for waterproofing later if you’re reinstating the bathroom. You can use metal self-tapping screws to secure the cement sheet to the steel frame.

Just a general safety note: if the property is older (before 1990), be cautious about the possibility of asbestos in any of the original cement sheeting. Asbestos was commonly used in building materials. If you're unsure about the age of the materials or the home, it’s important to have the area professionally assessed before continuing any demolition or cutting.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
