Re: How to fill light switch hole on doorframe?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Help2. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about filling a hole.

Start by sanding the area around where the light switch was to remove any paint build-up or lip around the edge. Use 120-grit sandpaper for this first stage to take off the paint cleanly and create a smooth surface to work from.

For an easy-to-use filler, I’d recommend Builder’s Bog, which is a two-part filler. Mix a golf-ball-sized portion of bog with a pea-sized amount of the red hardener until you get a consistent pink colour.

The small screw holes will be simple to fix. Just use a scraper to press some bog into them and smooth it off. For the larger hole, push the filler firmly into the gap so it sits flush with the surrounding surface. If there’s a large void behind the hole (which can happen in door frames), the filler might fall in. To prevent this, scrunch up some paper or newspaper and push it lightly into the hole first so the bog has something to rest against.

Apply the bog in layers rather than all at once, letting each layer dry for about 30 minutes before adding the next. Try not to overfill the hole, as excess bog can be tough to sand back. Once it’s built up and level, sand the area smooth with 180-grit sandpaper, then apply a thin skim coat to fill any small imperfections. Once that dries, give it a final sand with 240-grit sandpaper for a perfectly smooth finish.

Finish by applying an undercoat over the repair, then repaint the architrave to match the rest of the frame.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
