How to fix bathroom built-in linen press?

Hi,

A back section of my linen-press built-in bathroom cupboard has fallen back into the wall cavity. Never knew there was a space.

Anyone got advice how I can reattach the panel? The back must have been nailed in before it was installed into the cavity.

I was thinking as I can remove it nor get behind it just using liquid nail on the edge and pulling it back into position but not sure i can pull it tight enough to stay in place to set.

Thank you for your question about reattaching the back of a cabinet when you haven't got access behind.

Can you advise how thick the rear panel feels?

The side walls and shelves of the cabinet will be around 16mm thick like this 16mm White Particleboard. Does it feel about the same thickness as the side walls of the cabinet?

Or does it feel thin like this 3mm White Backing Board?

I see two different solutions to the problem, but the thickness will determine the best way to do it.

If the rear panel is made of the same material as the side walls, you could use some angle brackets with 15mm stitching screws to fix it back in place.

If the rear panel is thin or you don't want to use the above method, you can use a suction holder to pull the rear panel against the back of the carcass while the glue sets.

Apply a bead of Liquid Nails to the full perimeter of the cabinet then pull on the rear panel so it is hard against the back of the cabinet while the glue sets.

If the rear panel is thin, then you may need to use multiple suction holders, so the pressure is applied evenly around the perimeter.

Otherwise, you could put a screw through each corner of the panel and use them to pull the panel more evenly. Once the glue has set, remove the screws and put some White Self Adhesive Screw Caps over the screw holes.

Thanks, it's really a combination of both, it's only about a 3-4mm or so sheet but in the top middle and bottom a much thicker say 2-3cm piece of particle board adhered to it to allow the nails to go through.

That's an interesting way of doing it.

If you can utilise those thicker sections, the angle brackets will be a viable option.

Otherwise, the method of using screws or suction cups to pull it against the back of the cabinet is the way to go.

thanks for the help, wasn't a perfect fix the backboard didn't 100% pull back into place to be flush but is secure so things stop fulling into the cavity behind.

The only perfect solution would be to remove the cabinet, so you have access to the back, but I hope this solution works for you.
