We just found this damage after peeling back some peel and stick wallpaper off our downstairs toilet. Looks like the prior owner tore off the tiles on top of the sink and didn't bother to fix it. There also looks to be some cracking at the corner where the sink and the wall meet, behind the clear caulk.
From a rudimentary Google search I figure I could do the following:
1. Reseal the exposed plasterboard with primer
2. Remove the caulk around the sink
3. Apple drywall mud to refinish the area
4. Tile over everything, incl around the sink on all sides.
I had the following questions /concerns:
1. Do I need to think about waterproofing? Planning to use this room to teach my toddler how to wash her hands which can get messy.
2. Can I fix this wall without having to remove the sink from the wall? I know it is harder and an extra hassle but just want to know.

Thank you so much!!
