Hi
Noticed a gap in the grout next to the wall in the shower. Probably been there a long while but was mostly hidden by silicon edge.
Do have some water seemingly along the silicone edge just outside the shower too. Originally assumed small gap in shower screen edge. More just some damp and slightly wet sometimes.
Best option here? I am now assuming the water running along the edge of tile from shower from this gap.
Thanks
Hi @NicholasB,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
You should be able to just top up this gap with some Dunlop 800g Ready-To-Go Coloured Grout in the closest colour to your existing one, then apply some Dunlop Grout Sealer to the grout in your shower to help prevent further issues.
Where exactly is the gap in the grout that you can see in image 1? Is this between the floor and wall tiles inside the shower? Could you show a slightly wider image of the gap for a bit more context?
I imagine that filling this gap will help with the water exiting the shower, but I'd like to see if I can spot anything else that could be contributing.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Jacob
Heres a few more, thanks for reply.
Just wondering if should be worried about any potential issues if water has travelled along under the edges.
Thanks
Hi @NicholasB,
Thank you for the additional photos. That is where I thought it was, so my advice still stands.
Tiles, grout and silicone are like your first layer of protection. They are water-resistant and do a good job of directing most of the water to the drain, but they are not entirely waterproof, so I wouldn't be massively concerned just yet.
As long as there is a waterproofing membrane beneath the tiles and it is intact, then you shouldn't have too much to worry about, but it is difficult to say because we can't see beneath the tiles.
If you have some concerns, it might be worth speaking to a leak detection specialist to get their opinion. Considering there is dampness appearing outside the shower enclosure, it might be worth it even if it is just for some peace of mind.
Let me know what you think.
